Today in class we had good discussions about Christopher Columbus and whether or not he should be considered a hero. We also discussed whether or not we should continue to have a day honoring him. Feel free to post any thoughts or ideas about these topics.

I think it depends on the view which it is seen, such as the Spaniards might think of him as a hero but the Natives might think of him as a ***** (he he) Also in wars, the one country might see it's men as heros as the other country will see the opposing country's people as scums.

But since i'm not on either side my opinion is that he isn't a hero cause he mistreated the Natives while they gave him good things.

It depends on your point of view however, he was a ruthless dictator who massacred thousands of American Indians. I think that is sufficient evidence that he is not a hero. It is true that everyone makes mistakes, even heroes, but killing that many people was a big enough flaw in his actions that I could not be call him a hero.

I think columbus was a villan because he chose kill other people who were just like him. He came to spread the word of jesus but he instead chose to disobey jesus by killing the natives. He also had the natives become his slaves. So that is my opinion on Christopher Columbus.

I think that Columbus was a hero in some ways, and a villan in other ways. He was a hero because he was one of the FIRST explorers to discover America, and also discovered taht the world was round, instead of flat. He also opened up, and discovered many new resources. He was also a villan though, because he brought disease and enslavment. He used the Indians as slaves, and killed tons of people.
